John,
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we can miss some of the major updates coming from our elected officials. Here are a few highlights of the great work Connecticut Democrats are doing at the state and federal levels:
Sen. Chris Murphy reintroduced the bipartisan border security bill this week, asking his Republican colleagues to “choose this country over Donald Trump’s campaign.” In his comments on the Senate floor, Sen. Murphy called out Republicans for killing the bill when Donald Trump stated he wanted to use immigration as a political talking point for his campaign. Sen. Murphy and other democrats are asking their colleagues from across the aisle to do their job and work to find solutions to the issues our country faces.
Rep. Jahana Hayes introduced the Education Down Payment Assistance Act to make homeownership more accessible and affordable for teachers. The legislation aims to establish a new grant program at the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development for local government and educational agencies to provide down payment assistance to full-time public-school educators and school staff who are first-time home buyers.
And in Hartford, Democratic legislators from across Connecticut worked with Governor Lamont to enact new laws to ensure that Paid Sick Time covers ALL workers; to establish a Fallen Officer Fund to quickly assist survivors of any officer killed in the line of duty; to stop Medical Debt from hurting Connecticut residents’ credit scores; and much, much more.
As you can see, our Connecticut Democrats are working hard to improve the lives of working people–here at home and across the nation–and solve the hard issues facing our communities. Thank you for your support for our Democratic leaders and values.
