Friends,

I know our region has suffered severe weather lately. I hope everyone is staying safe. I have sent a letter to the President asking him to approve federal disaster assistance stemming from the recent flooding in our area.

This week in Washington, DC was National Police Week. We honored fallen officers throughout the week, and thousands of law enforcement officers from across the nation came to pay respect for those lost in the line of duty.

I also had a House Energy and Commerce Environment Subcommittee hearing involving the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency where I had the opportunity to fight back against the agency's overly burdensome regulatory agenda.

I also succeeded at passing legislation out of the Energy & Commerce Committee that is critical to the advancement of cutting-edge cell therapy innovation and will help save lives.

After a busy week in the Capitol, I'm looking forward to being back in Texas!

Sincerely,

Crenshaw Blasts EPA Chief on Excessive Regulations

Image

I often say the Environmental Protect Agency is one of the most dangerous agencies in the Federal government. This week during my Environment Subcommittee hearing, I pressed the EPA Administrator about the actions the agency has taken under his leadership, including appeasing radical environmentalists instead of focusing on reasonable and responsible regulation.

Under the Biden Administration, the EPA has proposed and finalized countless rules that completely fail to weigh costs and benefits. This has resulted in Americans paying more for everything from cars and gasoline to electricity and food and other basic everyday needs.

The agency needs a complete realignment when it comes to its decision-making. What Biden has done through EPA’s actions is add hundreds of billions in regulatory costs, putting the economic vitality of every American family at risk and diminishing our nation’s ability to compete on the global stage.

Crenshaw Honors Fallen Officers

Image

This week was National Police Week in Washington, DC. Every May, we honor the men and women in law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty. I believe every day we should honor the brave men and women of law enforcement. They protect our communities, they protect our borders, they hunt down the evilest of the evil, and they run toward danger to keep us safe.

In 2023, there were 118 officers killed in the line of duty. Their names were added to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial this week, bringing the total number to 24,067 names engraved on the Memorial.

Sadly, this year already, two members of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and one from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office have been killed in the line of duty. Next year, John Coddou, Ronald Bates and Charles Rivette will have their names added to the memorial during Police Week 2025.

As I take a moment to plant a flag on the Capitol grounds in honor of all the fallen officers, join me in taking time to reflect and remember the brave men and women who didn’t make it home from their tour of duty. They deserve our thanks for their service and sacrifice and so do their families. Thank you.

Crenshaw Legislation Passes Health Subcommittee

Image

This week, the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee passed legislation I offered to drive innovation in regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine is a cutting-edge field where we focus on using our own body to cure underlying disease – as opposed to just managing disease. But in order for this medical miracle to succeed, we must ensure the regulatory environment encourages innovation. This bill will help small innovators and encourage regulatory clarity.

Crenshaw calls on Biden to approve Texas Disaster Request

Today, I sent a letter to President Biden requesting his approval for disaster relief and emergency assistance for our district stemming from last month's heavy rains. Representatives Luttrell, Hunt, Babin and Weber joined me on this letter.

Having Biden approve the disaster relief request will allow for federal dollars to help in the recovery from the storm.

Damage from the Storms? Please register on iSTAT

Image

As we continue to recover from last weekend's storms, state and local officials are working to identify damages and immediate resource needs. To assist with the damage assessment, please self-report damage to homes, businesses, and agriculture using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT), which can be accessed through damage.tdem.texas.gov. The information provided through iSTAT helps officials identify immediate resource needs and aids in determining eligibility for disaster assistance.

Image

Congratulations to Karishma Parghi of Knox Junior High (8th grade)! My team presented her with a special proclamation for her pioneering STEM research after securing 1st place in the Junior Biochemist Division at the Texas Science and Engineering Fair.

Karishma was able to synthesize silver nanoparticles from spent coffee grounds. Silver nanoparticles are tiny particles with big potential in medicine and technology.

We are intensely proud of your innovative spirit and look forward to seeing what the future holds for you.
