Dear Friends,
Happy Friday! As we approach the summer, I know that many in our district are marking their calendars and preparing for vacation time with their families. For those going abroad, I want to make sure you have the travel information you need before your flight departs. An informed traveler is a safe traveler.
Accessing Country-Specific Information
If you plan to take a trip overseas, look up country-specific information for your
destination at travel.state.gov/destination. You can check the travel advisory level, find passport and visa requirements, learn about banned items, and save the contact info for the nearest U.S. embassy all in one place.
Enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program
For peace of mind while traveling abroad, sign up for the U.S. Department of State Consular Affairs Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). This will help the nearest U.S. embassy contact you in an emergency. Enroll your next trip at step.state.gov.
Expired Passports
Be sure to check your passport expiration date before booking tickets. Many countries require passports to have at least six months of validity remaining in order to enter. Learn how to apply at travel.state.gov/passport. In addition, IL-02 constituents experiencing difficulty receiving their passport can contact my office for assistance at https://robinkelly.house.gov/services/passports.
If you would like to share your thoughts with me, feel free to visit my website. You can also keep in touch through Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
Sincerely,
Robin L. Kelly Member of Congress
