Diana DeGette for Congress

Johh,

Segregation in schools may have ended in the courts 70 years ago, but today's extreme politicians are finding new ways to politicize our classrooms. In recent years, Republicans have doubled down on their attempts to rewrite Black history and erase the vital lessons we've learned since the ruling of Brown v. Board of Education.

In the decision to upend years of policies that supported a doctrine of "separate but equal," the courts affirmed that racial injustice has no place in our education system or in our country. Separate was never equal.

Our nation has undergone dramatic changes and progress over the past seven decades. Diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in schools and workplaces across the country have allowed for new perspectives and given millions an opportunity to speak up and feel a new sense of belonging.

Yet, instead of building on progress, Republicans are actively working to tear down DEI programs all over the country. Targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives wherever they can, the GOP has censored Black history, erased LGBTQ+ representation, and actively defunded our schools.

Everyone deserves an equal right to equality, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — I can't and won't let these attacks stand.

That's why, on this 70th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, I'm asking you to add your name alongside mine and recommit to upholding the equality the plaintiffs in Brown v. Board of Education fought for. We can advocate for policies that build on and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in our schools and every aspect of our lives.

Thank you,

— Diana DeGette
