Daily Docket — Friday, May 17

Right-wing groups and figures continue to attack voting rights and threaten democracy.

  • Former Trump attorney John Eastman pleaded not guilty to crimes related to attempting to overturn the 2020 election in Arizona — just weeks after his law license was temporarily suspended in California and Washington, D.C. over similar schemes.

  • The Republican National Committee filed a lawsuit against DeKalb County, Georgia to obtain public records related to funding the county received to support election management. Republicans allege the grant violates a state law that bans private election administration funding.

  • In a new episode of Defending Democracy, voting rights reporter Ari Berman joins Marc to discuss right-wing attacks on the will of the people and the evolution of the state of democracy. Watch it on YouTube and listen wherever you get your podcasts.

And activists continue to fight back.

  • MSNBC will release a documentary on Sunday that will explore voter suppression and threats to democracy in Georgia through the eyes of activists, journalists and experts in the field.
