John —

As a teacher, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education. Yet, the promise of equal opportunity remains unfulfilled for far too many students, particularly in Black communities.

Seventy years ago, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of equality in the Brown v. Board of Education case, declaring segregation in public schools unconstitutional. This ruling didn't just shift the scales of justice; it reshaped our expectations for equality in America.

But it is crucial we acknowledge the work that still lies ahead. Even today, there are still stark reminders of the systemic injustices that persist within our education system.

Many schools in Black neighborhoods suffer from chronic underfunding, further widening the gap in educational opportunities. Black students are also disproportionately disciplined and funneled into the “school-to-prison pipeline,” making it even harder for them to get ahead.

Throughout my career, I have been deeply committed to leveling the playing field for all students. Whether through advocating for increased funding, supporting policies that promote equality, or working to dismantle systemic barriers, I have remained steadfast in my dedication to ensuring every student has the resources and support they need to succeed.

While we reflect on the legacy of Brown v. Board of Education , I hope you’ll join me in recommitting yourself to the fight for equality. If you agree every person – regardless of race or ZIP code – deserves an equal opportunity to receive a quality education, sign on to my petition today. >> [link removed]
