Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

This week, we were in Anacostia to open our second Safe Commercial Corridor Hub. We opened the first hub in Chinatown in February, and since opening the hub, violent crime nearby is down 78% and more than 200 people have been connected to the Department of Behavioral Health and the Department of Human Services through walk-ins.

The idea behind the hubs is simple: these are sites where residents can walk in and get help from multiple DC Government agencies. The hubs allow our teams to be more responsive to issues in the community. The core teams staffing them are a mix of community relations, public safety, and human and behavioral health services.

Our new Anacostia Hub is located at 2300 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE and will be open for residents to walk in for services from Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The hub will serve as a focal point of community engagement along a corridor that is already home to multiple DC Government agencies that provide important services and programs.

Safe Commercial Corridor Hub Anacostia

I want to thank all the teams at our first hub that have been problem-solvers and who continue to make that site work for the community. And I also want to thank the teams who will be supporting residents and businesses at the new site — stop by and see them!

Sincerely,

Muriel Bowser
Briya Ribbon Cutting

Small Business Owners: Participate in Our Small Business Census

2024 DC Small Business Census

Are you the owner of a small business headquartered in Washington, DC? We want to hear from you! DC Government is conducting a census of DC-headquartered small businesses to better understand who makes up our small business community and ensure that DC is a place where small business owners of all backgrounds can thrive.

The census asks questions about your business’s size, locations, and ownership demographics, and should only take 3-5 minutes. Business owners may receive a call or a visit from a member of the Small Business Census team between now and the end of the summer of 2024. You can participate in the census in English, Spanish, Amharic, French, Chinese, Vietnamese, or Korean.
