Instead of imposing arrests and fines, we need proactive and localized approaches to homelessness. Lawmakers must implement comprehensive support systems that address the root causes of homelessness, such as affordable housing, mental health services, and job training programs.

Governor Newsom’s initiative to fund mental health services and housing projects through a proposed bond measure is a promising example of how targeted investments can provide sustainable solutions.
