Dear John,
After the horrific October 7 attack by Hamas, we have seen Hezbollah and Iran launch their own attacks on Israel. Our country has no greater ally in the Middle East than Israel, who is currently fighting for its survival. It is unconscionable that the Biden administration would delay shipments of much-needed arms for Israel to defend itself.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rightfully took a defiant stance, vowing that the State of Israel would "fight with our fingernails" amid an escalating regional war with powerful adversaries. Tellingly, Netanyahu also said Israel would "stand alone" if necessary.
Israel should be able to count on the United States to deliver the weapons it needs to fight for its survival. The Biden administration is playing politics with the fate of Israel in the Middle East, and we can't abide this.
To President Biden:
It is unacceptable that your administration would delay shipment of much-needed weapons to our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel.
Your reelection prospects need to take a backseat when it comes to standing with Israel. The United States cannot leave Israel hanging while Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran launch strike after strike. Israel must have the means to defend itself.
There is nothing to be gained from turning our back on Israel, let alone tying one of Israel's hands behind its back while its adversaries are on the move.
We, the undersigned, ask that you immediately reverse course and send the arms Israel needs to defend itself without delay.
We ask that you consider the long-term implications of abandoning our greatest ally in the Middle East, not just your electoral prospects in key battleground states.
We ask that you make clear to the Israeli government that you will be a willing partner in their fight for survival from this point forward.
