A quick — but not inconsequential — update today.
As the coronavirus emergency continues to intensify, this is what Donald Trump said this week (via Twitter):
Once we OPEN UP OUR GREAT COUNTRY, and it will be sooner rather than later, the horror of the Invisible Enemy, except for those that sadly lost a family member or friend, must be quickly forgotten. Our Economy will BOOM, perhaps like never before!!!
That’s the president of the United States saying we should FORGET what the coronavirus, and his catastrophically inept response to it, is doing to our country and the world — forget the countless lives that will have been lost by the time this pandemic is behind us at last.
If that feels both saddening and infuriating, I’m right there with you.
Donald Trump thinks this is a time for forgetting.
You and I know it is a time for helping.
So I want to point you in the direction of a few organizations — some you may be familiar with, some may be new — that are doing important work to help people get through this crisis.
Community Justice Exchange
Feeding America
Freelancers Union
Make the Road New York
National Domestic Violence Hotline
National Domestic Workers Alliance
No Kid Hungry
One Fair Wage Service Worker Emergency Fund
Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation
The Workers Lab
Stay safe.
