Extended Paid Maternity Leave in Hong Kong

In the May issue of Health Affairs, Ellie Andres of Duke-NUS and her team of coauthors explore the mental health implications of Hong Kong’s extension of statutory paid maternity leave ([link removed] ) from ten weeks to fourteen weeks.

The researchers find that the maternity leave extension was associated with improved maternal mental health outcomes.

Andres and coauthors also find reductions in mothers experiencing postnatal depressive symptoms.
