the only “witch hunt” this year will be starring ariana grande

Can we say what we’re all thinking? It’s absolutely insane that we’re living in a world where one of the major candidates for president has tried to buy Greenland, nuke hurricanes, and overthrow the results of the last presidential election he lost — and somehow the race is still within the margin of error.

We teamed up with our friends at Zeteo last week to take a look at where the presidential race stands today, less than six months before the election.

In a two-way race, Biden receives 47% of the vote and Trump receives 46% of the vote. But when we asked voters for their choice in a six-way matchup including third-party candidates, Biden’s vote share drops by 7 points to 40%, while Trump’s drops by 5 points to 41%. Kennedy receives 12% of the vote.

One factor that could play a big role in shifting those numbers before November? Just a small, tiny issue for Trump called “88 felony charges.” Trump claimed the indictment against him relating to a hush money payment scheme is a "Witch-Hunt" by "Radical Left Democrats" to "destroy the Make America Great Again movement." But when asked for their view, 54% of voters, including 90% of Democrats and 56% of Independents, believe the indictment “is fair legal action against fraud.”

Here are some other highlights from DFP this week:

Because we’re Delta Airlines, and life is a f**ing nightmare!”

“I love the big airlines!” is a sentence that no one has ever spoken in the history of America.

They delay our flights by 12 hours, strand us overnight, and if we want help, we either have to wait on hold for ages yelling the word “representative” or fill up our friend’s Twitter feed with dozens of posts yelling at @AmericanAir for someone to finally get us a refund.

But the era of long DMs with the underpaid Southwest help agent may finally be over. Thanks to a new rule just codified by Congress, airlines will be required to pay quick, automatic refunds to passengers in the following cases:

  • Canceled or significantly changed flights that are delayed more than 3 hours domestically or 6 hours internationally

  • Significantly delayed baggage return that is not delivered within 12 hours of a domestic flight or within 15 to 30 hours of an international flight arriving

  • If extra services that a customer paid for, such as Wi-Fi, seat selection, or inflight entertainment, were not provided

You probably won’t be surprised to hear that these new rules are extremely popular with voters. Our polling finds that when likely voters are informed of this new rule, 84% say they support it, including 88% of Democrats, 82% of Independents, and 80% of Republicans.

I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more… and I still wouldn’t cover the gap in support between Democrats’ and Republicans’ entitlement plans

We could come up with a pretty long list of things Republican politicians hate. We can start with immigrants, but we can also add Americans who take medicine and seniors on Social Security — and of course, we can’t forget literal puppies

What do Americans hate? It turns out: Republican plans for Social Security and Medicare. It sounds unbelievable, but Republicans are actually proposing taking away Medicare’s ability to negotiate drug prices, privatizing Medicare, and cutting funding for Social Security.

We compared voters’ thoughts on Republicans’ and Democrats’ plans for Social Security and Medicare, and found the difference couldn’t be more clear. Voters support expanding the ability of Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices (90%), expanding Medicare coverage to include vision, dental, and hearing (90%), and expanding Social Security benefits by taxing wealthy Americans (78%). Meanwhile, GOP plans have support from just a quarter of voters or less.

Last night, the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Denver Nuggets by 45 points (a basketball reference!) The NBA was sent into shockwaves — the Wolves scored 64% more points than the defending champs. In comparison, Democrats’ plans on Social Security and Medicare have more than 350% more support than the Republicans’ plans. It’s not even close.
