Balancing the books and spending money carefully means looking out for our kids and grandkids.
So I was truly honored to be named a 2024 “Fiscal Hero” by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget last week. The hero term may be an overstatement - we’re just being careful with our finances – but I do appreciate the recognition and, most of all, what that work means for my constituents back in Maine.
Ensuring your hard-earned tax dollars are managed effectively is a responsibility that I take seriously. That’s why I’m proud to have been a part of passing these historic measures to not only grow our economy but to ensure that everyone gets their fair share of that growth:
- We instituted (and I proudly supported) a corporate minimum tax that will ensure our most profitable corporations don’t pay less in taxes than teachers or firefighters. It will raise $222 billion over the next 10 years!
- Some pieces of the Inflation Reduction Act, like direct price negotiation with pharmaceutical companies on the most widely used drugs by Medicare recipients, will save everyday Americans hundreds of billions over the next 10 years. That bill also contained provisions from my Stop CHEATERS Act to help the IRS crack down on millionaire and billionaire tax dodgers so that everyone pays their fair share to the country we love.
That’s not enough, though — we need to stop digging the hole deeper for our kids and keep on fighting. Future Americans deserve a country in good fiscal order.
Thanks so much, John.

P.S. I'm working hard in the Senate to keep our country strong, our taxes fair, and our economy improving. If you appreciate the work I'm doing, I'd like to ask for your vote and your support in my reelection campaign this November. Can you chip in $10 or $25 today?

There is nothing more important to Senator King than doing right by the people of Maine. This means fighting on their behalf for the issues that matter most, whether that’s health care, national security, veterans, education, economic certainty, the environment or job creation. Throughout his decades of public service, he has worked tirelessly to build relationships and improve opportunities for all Maine people, from Kittery to Fort Kent.
