The New York Times just reported that the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito displayed a symbol that shows solidarity with the effort to overturn the 2020 election while he was hearing a case about that effort.

SIGN: Samuel Alito must recuse or be removed from cases involving Trump and the 2020 election—and be held accountable for having an insurrectionist solidarity symbol outside his home while hearing cases about overturning the 2020 results!

Dear MoveOn member,

BREAKING: The New York Times just reported that the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito displayed a symbol that shows solidarity with the effort to overturn the 2020 election ... while he was hearing a case about that effort.1 The upside-down flag—a "stop the steal" image—is just the latest evidence that the partisan Republicans on the court cannot impartially hear or rule on cases related to the efforts to overturn the election, the January 6 insurrection, or Trump's claims of immunity.

Alito may be writing or contributing to a decision about Trump's immunity claims RIGHT NOW! There is no time to wait. Tell Samuel Alito to recuse himself from all cases involving the 2020 election, including Trump's efforts to claim immunity from prosecution—or Chief Justice John Roberts must remove him from these cases due to his conflicts of interest!

Justice Samuel Alito must recuse himself or be removed immediately from considering cases related to Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election, and he must be held accountable!

Even if Alito won't take the ethical action on his own, it is critical to amp up pressure on lawmakers and the Chief Justice. It's especially critical to ensure everyone knows about his conflicts and violations, as the court could rule any day on Trump's immunity claims.

The revelation of this sign of partisanship and partiality on Alito's home is the latest in the trend of right-wing Supreme Court justices embracing conflicts of interest with relation to Trump's election cases. Justice Clarence Thomas's wife, Ginni Thomas, a leading conservative activist, took action to try to overturn the election results—yet Thomas did not disclose this while ruling on cases related to the insurrection and has continued to hear cases such as Trump's appeal for immunity.2

The only way to begin to restore any trust in this court—and to ensure any semblance of a fair hearing on Trump's baseless immunity claims—is for Alito and Thomas to recuse, or be removed by John Roberts.

Because Chief Justice John Roberts has allowed these conflicts to go unchecked, the Supreme Court is at its lowest public approval ever—with the public losing trust in the institution's integrity and seeing it as the tool of a partisan right-wing agenda that it is. That's why it shouldn't surprise anyone that these partisan actors are overturning precedent and taking groundless cases to pursue an agenda that has undermined abortion rights, undone environmental regulations, and enriched and empowered corporations and billionaires.

And the Senate Judiciary Committee—which has the duty to be a check on the Supreme Court—must investigate these conflicts immediately and take action to hold conflicted, corrupt justices accountable, including impeachment if necessary.

Add your name to the petition now, and we will bring the signatures to the attention of lawmakers, the press, and the Supreme Court as soon as possible! Alito may be drafting or contributing to a decision about Trump's immunity right now. We have to act fast!

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? The MAGA movement's book bans have forced teachers and librarians across the country to remove books from their shelves and censor what young people can learn. MoveOn is fighting back, including by filling a "Banned Bookmobile" with books that the far right has banned and driving it to key cities and towns to raise the visibility of book bans, hand out banned books for free, and bring people together to stop censorship. To keep up the fight against book bans and the MAGA politicians who support them, we need your help.
