Closing loopholes on noncitizen voting

Patriot–

A pinky promise is not enough to ensure that every vote cast in a federal election is from a citizen of the United States. Neither is simply checking a box. Yet, that seems to be what Democrats are defending when they attack Representative Chip Roy and Senator Mike Lee’s bill, the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.

Last week, Speaker Johnson, Senator Lee, Congressman Roy, myself, and others spoke in support of this bill at press conference. Our friend Cleta Mitchell also announced a new coalition that we are helping to organize called Only Citizens Vote Coalition.

You can watch the entire press conference if you missed it, and you can watch my individual remarks as well. I also wrote an op-ed discussing the importance of getting out ahead of what could be a disaster for our election system.

While the SAVE Act doesn’t make it “illegal” for noncitizens to vote in federal elections – because that is already against the law – but it does require proof of citizenship at the time of voter registration, which is not currently required by law. A new study found that between 10%-27% of noncitizen adults are registered to vote. This is a staggering number that could have dire consequences for our elections.

ACTION

What can you do? Call your U.S. representative and senators and tell them to pass the SAVE Act, because Americans, like you, overwhelmingly demand that Only Citizens Vote in U.S. elections!

In fact, in your remarks when you call, you can mention the results from a poll we fielded with McLaughlin and Associates in February 2024. We found that 87% agree that proof of United States citizenship should be required to register to vote in American elections, and 86% agree that only United States citizens should be allowed to vote in elections in America.

Thank you for your continued work to save our republic!

In liberty,

Jenny Beth Martin
