Dear John,

Wow. It’s been a difficult and often painful month since we sent our last PAWS Chicago e-newsletter. We hope you’re safe, healthy and hopeful.

Our PAWS Community is inspiring. When we asked, more than 6,000 of you volunteered to foster homeless animals last month. In just a couple of days more than 2,000 of you inquired about adopting homeless pets. Hundreds more have donated or volunteered, doing everything from walking dogs to delivering pet food to making masks.

We’re working differently now but we won't stop. Homeless animals still need help. And rescuers never rest.
PAWS and you. Saving animals, supporting people.
Our work to safeguard pets is as critical now as ever. Read about how the PAWS Community is stepping up during the COVID-19 crisis.

** We Need Your Help More Than Ever
------------------------------------------------------------
These innovative and life-saving programs during the COVID-19 pandemic are only possible because of you. Our March fundraising was down 40% from March last year. That drastically impacts our ability to save animals. Please consider one more generous act: a lifesaving donation.

Thanks to our volunteers and Outreach team, in just one day we distributed an entire month’s worth of pet food and supplies to almost 100 pets through our mobile Pet Food Pantry. Very special thanks to Merrick Pet Care for more than 800 bags of food and supplies!

** Virtual Adoption Process
------------------------------------------------------------
Over the past two weeks, more than 100 dogs and cats have found permanent homes through our online pet adoption process. The process is a little slower, so if you’ve inquired online—thank you for your patience!

** Animals into Foster
------------------------------------------------------------
Talk about amazing rescuers, thousands of you volunteered to foster animals so we could empty our centers and keep people safe. Now, hundreds of dogs and cats are living the good life in a temporary home. And such great reports! We’ve seen dogs learning new skills, cats peering out windows, and a whole lot of snoozing on the couch!

** Telemedicine
------------------------------------------------------------

While our Community Outreach program usually serves pet owners in under-served communities through door-to-door efforts, the ongoing pandemic required us to find innovative ways to serve people and pets. With telehealth appointments for pet owners in Englewood, West Englewood, and Back of the Yards, our veterinarian now conducts virtual home visits to diagnose and help treat animals, by phone!
