The final stage of the race will start at Greater Manchester: National Cycling Centre and finish in Leigh.

Council closes property at the centre of criminality and anti-social behaviour

The council has closed a property in Waterhead because of drug dealing, vandalism, theft, and noise complaints.

The tenant of the flat at Rosehill Court ignored warnings from the council, First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO), and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to stop these activities.

Now, a three-month Closure Order has been issued, meaning the tenant and any visitors are banned from entering the property. If anyone breaks this order, they could be arrested and face an unlimited fine or up to six months in prison. For more details, visit [Oldham Council news webpage]([link removed])

FosterCareFortnight highlights heartwarming fostering moment

During #FosterCareFortnight, let's shine a light on touching stories. Meet A, a young boy in foster care who finds joy in simple things like cuddles and placing his shoes beside Keith's, his foster carer. These everyday moments mean the world to children like A.

However, Oldham is facing a shortage of foster parents. We're asking our community to step up and provide loving homes for children in need.

Until Sunday 26 May, we are taking part in the national #FosterCareFortnight campaign. It celebrates the meaningful moments that shape fostering journeys, no matter how big or small.

Join us for an online event on Wednesday 22 May, 6.30—7.15pm, to learn about fostering and support for carers. To book your spot email [email protected]

Could you open your heart and home to a child in need? Oldham urgently needs more people to step forward. If fostering has crossed your mind, call 0161 770 6600 or learn more here

Let's make a difference in the lives of children like A together.

#BeMoorAware – enjoy and respect the countryside

The council, Greater Manchester Police, and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service are raising awareness about the dangers of moorland fires and their consequences over the next few months.

We are supporting the #BeMoorAware campaign to show how discarded cigarettes, fires, and barbecues can cause severe damage.

The campaign will also remind people that they could be fined or prosecuted if they ignore the fire ban on the moors.

If you see a fire on the moors, call 999 immediately.

When visiting the countryside, please act responsibly and respect the area and its residents.

Choose the right way to get rid of your bulky household items

The #Don'tTrashOldham campaign is supporting a Greater Manchester wide effort to encourage residents to dispose of large household items properly.

Instead of hiring someone through social media, we suggest using Bulky Bob's or another licensed waste service. This ensures your unwanted stuff can be given to families in need.

Sadly, some unlicensed traders are picking up waste and dumping it illegally. If they trace it back to you, you might get fined or end up in court.

Alternatively, you can take your large household items to Arkwright Street Recycling Centre for free disposal.

Improvements coming to Manchester Road

The council is making Manchester Road (A62) safer and easier to cross. Starting Saturday 25 May, we'll install a new ‘push button’ crossing and island at Clowes Street junction.

To keep things running smoothly and avoid future road closures, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and United Utilities will work together and fix a faulty sewer at the same time.

The work will take around three weeks. So, the teams can work quickly and safely, expect a lane closure on A62 towards Oldham during this time. Thanks for your understanding.
