Friend,
Sacrifice, faith, and family.
I reflect on these values every single Easter, and this one will be no
different — in fact, it’s even more important this year. Because of the risk
posed by COVID-19, Hoosiers won’t be able to flock to the pews of our churches,
and we won’t all be able to gather our families together to say a prayer over
an Easter meal.
This is a new challenge for us all — especially during this Holy Week. But the
church is a body, not a building — and we’ll come together with church
livestreams to celebrate the Word and the Truth.
In times of uncertainty, it’s even more vital to turn to our faith for
guidance. I have been taking solace in the words of Matthew 18:20.
"For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
I can’t think of a verse more appropriate for this Easter. Even though we
cannot join together with all our family and friends, we can still celebrate
our faith and reflect on our core values.
Last Sunday as we celebrated Palm Sunday, the palm branches thrown at Jesus’
feet as he was entering Jerusalem symbolized peace and victory. We, too, will
see victory, and we will see peace when we complete this difficult journey.
And trust me, we’ll emerge on the other side of this crisis with a state that
is stronger than ever before.
Happy Easter - stay safe, stay healthy, and let’s stay #INThisTogether.
