June Prayer Thought

“If the only prayer you ever say in your life is ‘thank you’ that would be sufficient.”
Meister Eckehart

In April 2022 we began exploring prayer together. Each month we have reflected on the nature of prayer and various resources for prayer. We’ve explored a number of prayer practices, including prayer walking, the breath prayer, prayer beads, the Wesley Covenant prayer and more. Currently we are hearing from Missouri United Methodists from different “come froms” and perspectives. It has been a growing experience and blessing for me to explore both new and familiar forms of prayer with you.

As I prepare to retire, I would like to offer one last resource for navigating the changing of appointments that happens every year at the end of June. Our Book of Worship offers resources for both saying farewell to a pastor who is retiring or moving and also welcoming a new pastor to your congregation. Those rituals include opportunities for sharing our thanks, offering forgiveness and releasing a pastor to their new ministry. It also provides a way to welcome a new pastor into your congregation. I encourage those of you in transition to consider these resources as you seek to both end one ministry well and make a great beginning for your new pastor.

Finally, it has been a joy and privilege to share this journey with you. Thank you for blessing me with this opportunity.
