Last week, it was disappointing to see our Senator, Rick Scott, skip voting on legislation to improve aviation safety and address the crippling aviation workforce shortage.
Rick Scott is a fraud who cares more about his own political ambitions than serving Floridians. Instead of doing his job, Scott was in NY kissing up to Trump and reminding everyone how he oversaw the largest Medicare fraud in history. Despite not being invited by Trump, Scott followed him around like a pathetic superfan.
This November, we will have the opportunity to vote Senator Scott out of office and flip the seat BLUE! But we will need all hands on deck. This week's newsletter is full of ways to get involved with the work we are doing every week at the Democrats of Indian River.
Virtual Event
38 states and counting have voter ID laws in place this year, and more Americans than ever before now live in a state with a voter ID law. While these restrictive and confusing laws put millions of votes at risk, there are also available resources and free help services to ensure every eligible voter can cast a ballot that counts.
Please join VoteRiders, the nation's leading organization focused on the increasingly crucial issue of voter ID, for a webinar to learn how to fight back and what we can do to ensure no voter stays home this November despite the rising tide of ID laws.
With school closings being discussed in Duval, Broward, Hillsborough, & Leon counties, districts are coming to terms with a new future in which millions of dollars are being diverted each year out of neighborhood public schools into corporate run schools.
Florida Republicans redirected $900 million from neighborhood schools to corporate run schools, where millions of taxpayer dollars are being spent with no accountability. Unlike public schools, these schools can pay bloated salaries to unqualified administrators and teachers and aren't even required to conduct background checks on their employees, putting our kids' safety at risk. Meanwhile, local school districts are so underfunded that some are already preparing to close public schools.
Are you hearing a lot about school vouchers but not sure what it all means? States across the country are implementing policies that divert funds from public schools and allow it to be funneled into private schools instead. Want to learn all you need to know about these school voucher programs? Join this virtual event to hear from Jessica Levin of the Education Law Center and learn how vouchers impact our public schools, what they mean for equality in education and the actual goals behind the voucher push. See you there!
