Birth control is a fundamental right, not a privilege but for too long, access to it has been restricted by medically unnecessary prescription requirements and cost barriers.

Yet, despite the Affordable Care Act's coverage of prescription birth control, OTC options like Opill risk being sidelined since they aren't always covered by insurance, making them too expensive for many.

By using the full force of his office to ensure OTC contraceptives are covered just like prescription methods, President Biden has the power to tear down barriers to birth control access for millions. But he must hear from us that this is a priority he cannot ignore.

Over-the-counter birth control must be fully covered by all insurance plans, including Medicaid, just like prescription contraceptives already are. Help send President Biden a clear message now.

While the newly approved Opill will soon be available OTC, its anticipated cost of $20-50 per month will put it out of reach for the very people who need it most -- young folks, low-income individuals, and others who already face the greatest barriers to reproductive healthcare.

No one should have to choose between basic necessities and being able to control their own fertility.

Research clearly shows that when cost barriers to contraception are eliminated, use increases significantly, resulting in fewer unintended pregnancies. Categorically denying insurance coverage for what may soon be the most affordable and accessible contraceptive method is both deeply unjust and remarkably short-sighted.

For the sake of reproductive autonomy and health equity, we must raise our voices until the White House gets the message.
