Friends,
Want to know why I’ve been called “Capitol Hill's Top Climate Nerd?”
Well, to start, I used to be the CEO of a clean energy company, and I was one of the very first Congressional candidates to run on a climate change platform!
I’m also a BIG fan of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) – or, as I like to call it, the most important federal agency you’ve probably never heard of. I constantly talk about why it matters for our nation’s future. I even invented a word for its greatness: FERC-alicious.
FERC is exactly why this Climate Nerd is reaching out to you today: They’ve released a new rule that’s a major step on our path to transform our nation’s energy transmission grid.
Why is this so important? Well, having a well air-conditioned home when it’s hot, that’s FERC-alicious. Getting your electricity from the lowest cost reliable source, that’s FERC-alicious. An electric transmission system that keeps everything from electric vehicles to steel mills running with zero-carbon electricity, that’s FERC-alicious.
All jokes aside, this is an issue I’m extremely passionate about and I hope you’ll split a donation between me and SEEC PAC to help us complete the clean energy transition!
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
So what’s FERC really all about? Let me explain.
You know all those electricity wires hanging in the sky? Well, FERC’s goal is to make sure those wires are being built to bring clean electricity from the remote parts of the country where the sun shines the brightest and the wind blows the strongest to the population centers where the majority of Americans live.
Right now the electricity transmission grid is extremely overtaxed, and we’re not building new lines fast enough to meet up with growing demand for clean energy.
And you know what’s crazy? Currently basically no one is in charge of planning where new lines should go in a holistic way. FERC’s new rule will require planning of these lines on a regional basis.
But this is only one action we need to take to make sure our grid is providing reliable, affordable, and clean power to all Americans. There’s a lot more to still do, which is why my colleague Rep. Mike Levin and I introduced the Clean Electricity and Transmission Acceleration (CETA) Act to tackle this problem in a comprehensive way.
Will you split a donation between me and my colleagues in SEEC PAC to help us continue leading the fight towards a clean energy future?
Thank you,
Rep. Sean Casten
