But first, I wanted to share my thoughts now that a few days have passed since Donald Trump rallied a crowd of MAGA supporters on the shore in Wildwood in Cape May County.

He asserted that his toxic brand of xenophobia, an economic agenda that cuts taxes for his wealthiest donors and makes it harder for ordinary people to get by, and relentlessly undermining the rule of law would put New Jersey in play.

I took that personally because, like most of the things he utters, his ridiculous claim couldn’t be further from the truth.

From the time even before I was born, when a volunteer group of lawyers helped my parents purchase a home in what was previously an all-white neighborhood after witnessing the courage and heroism of Civil Rights activists like John Lewis in Selma, Alabama on Bloody Sunday, the people of New Jersey have shown me the path to building a more just, loving nation.

That’s what this election in November is going to be about, and with our campaign’s May fundraising deadline right around the corner, our immediate response to Trump’s South Jersey rally will send an important signal about our ability to win the many important fights to come.
