Hi John,
Our leaders in New York have made the difficult decision to implement drastic social distancing rules. I’m proud that here in New York, we have a government basing its policy on science -- and I am so thankful that these measures are helping to flatten the curve.
We’re taking positive steps on the road out of this pandemic, but there’s still important work ahead of us. Today, I wanted to share some resources and articles you might find helpful as we navigate this public health crisis together:
- If you’re feeling sick, the most important thing you can do is to get tested. New York State has opened free drive-through testing on Long Island, at Stony Brook University and Jones Beach. To get tested at these sites, you do NOT need a referral from a doctor, but you DO need to make an appointment. The sites are open 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., and the number to call for an appointment is 888-364-3065. There are also many private urgent care centers now offering tests, which may be covered by your insurance.
- If you have lost your job, fallen ill, or have had your hours cut due to your workplace being closed during the pandemic, you can find some FAQs on filing for unemployment and eligibility here. >> [link removed]
- If you are a small business owner or sole proprietor, you can now apply for loans through the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program. >> [link removed]
-New CDC guidelines recommend wearing a mask if you have to go to public spaces. If you don’t have a mask, the CDC published how-to’s for both sewn and no-sew DIY masks you can make with materials around your home. >> [link removed]
- If you’re bored at home and have flour, yeast, sugar, and cooking oil, -- and if you’ve never baked a loaf of bread before -- you can try out this easy homemade bread recipe to pass a couple of hours! (Even Jacob, my campaign manager, made his first loaf of bread in these past few weeks, and has baked three more since then.) >> [link removed]
As always, my team and I are thinking of you and your loved ones. We hope you are staying safe.
Thank you, and talk soon,
Nancy
