Dear John,
Day 2 of the Policy Action Institute is all about giving you tools that will take you from a public health enthusiast to a public health champion. On Day 2, you’ll hear from top experts in advocacy, communications and community organizing in the morning, and in the afternoon, you’ll engage in public health advocacy skill training with your peers. By the time PAI is over, you’ll be prepared to:
• Become a better advocate for the critical public health issues in your community
• Organize and partner with community organizations to achieve better health for everyone in your community
• Be a more effective communicator for public health
• Educate the public about the legislative process, and introduce them to the legislators who represent them
• Become comfortable engaging with policymakers via a phone call or face-to-face discussion
• Attend a town hall and ask your elected officials questions about their policy positions
• Encourage citizens to vote through nonpartisan voter mobilization efforts
• Build public awareness by educating community members on relevant issues that impact them
