John, I have some exciting news to share with you today!
Truth to Power has officially endorsed two more candidates who will bring fresh ideas and much-needed perspectives to Congress: Sarah McBride (DE-AL) and Emily Randall (WA-06).
If elected in November, each of these leaders will make history. Sarah McBride would be the first out transgender person in Congress, and Emily Randall would be the first out LGBTQI+ Latina—bringing new and diverse voices to the halls of Congress.
Growing up in a union household and caring for a sister with complex medical needs, Emily Randall will be a powerful advocate for families like hers. She will champion disability justice and fight for all Americans to get the health care they need. In the House, I have spearheaded efforts to increase accessibility in our national parks and to end ableist discrimination in jury service and organ transplants. I’m excited that we can elect a leader like Emily, who has a deep understanding of how government can help disabled Americans participate fully in civic life.
Sarah McBride has a track record of delivering paid family and medical leave in the state legislature, and she’ll bring this same commitment to families to the House. Advocating for pro-family policies that strengthen our workforce and economy, such as paid leave and universal child care, have been top priorities of mine in Congress. As I leave Congress, I’m glad we can have an experienced advocate like Sarah continue in these fights.
I have seen firsthand how important issues for families, like disability justice and paid leave, don’t rise to the top of Congress’ agenda because too many politicians are busy catering to their corporate donors. Sarah and Emily both refuse to take corporate PAC contributions and will be fighters for the American people, not corporate special interests.
We need to take back the House this year and elect leaders in our movement, who will continue to take on the tough fights in the House.
Thank you so much,
Katie Porter
