Partners,
Hi all, my name is Jamie Stevenson and I am one of the strategic partnerships campaign managers here at Families USA- we hope you are having a great week!
As you may already know, we are just over a year into the Medicaid Unwinding process, which began in April 2023 at the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency, and we know that disenrollment and loss of health coverage have hit both states and families with a large number of challenges. Recently, CMS further extended the unwinding period to June 2025 to allow state Medicaid directors more time and flexibility to handle millions of post-pandemic eligibility renewals.
While this may provide some relief for American families, we have seen during this first year that there have been high rates of procedural disenrollment and long wait times from under-resourced Medicaid offices with high staff vacancy rates. This uncertainty, stress, and coverage loss has significant consequences on overall health. To honor and uplift the voices of families who have faced these struggles during the unwinding, we would love the chance to hear about their experiences and elevate them to continue showing the value of Medicaid, how its services provide for so many, and why flexibilities and coverage must continue.
Do you have stories in your networks of people not knowing where to turn or who need help navigating the Medicaid Unwinding process?
If so, please use this link to share your Medicaid Unwinding story [[link removed]] . Please also feel encouraged to reach out to myself and Kiersten Zinyengere (CC’d) if you’d like to chat further about this issue or have any questions.
Thanks,
Jamie
