Educating Students and Protecting Student Data Privacy During COVID-19

As schools transition to remote learning and virtual platforms due to COVID-19, many educators and leaders are having to choose between educating students and protecting student privacy. But this is a false choice. Educators and leaders can and must do both.

Privacy policies must protect students while also enabling educators to use the technology and data they need to teach students. It's possible – and it begins with a strong foundation at the federal level and continues at the state, district and school levels, ensuring teachers are data literate and trained to protect student privacy.

Visit DQC's resources on ensuring student data privacy and promoting teacher data literacy for more information on how leaders at all levels can make both possible for all students.
