John,
With the challenges we’re all facing due to the coronavirus, our government response should make things easier for folks, not more complicated.
While we’re certainly pleased that there are steps being taken to provide families, small businesses, and students with relief, there are so many hurdles to getting that help.
Loans are backed up, websites are over-capacity, there’s uncertainty about whether or not tax returns have to have been filed in order to receive the check from the government, and the usual government red tape is more abundant than ever.
Meanwhile, President Trump signed a bill designating $500 billion in relief for big corporations -- then promptly removed the inspector general. That leaves $500 billion with NO oversight. That’s wrong.
Once again, the people who need help the most have to jump through hoops, while Trump and his corporate allies get to pick and choose which of their friends and CEOs get billions of dollars.
This shows, once again, the need for clear-eyed leadership in Washington. We need to send a representative to Washington who will fight for working people, students, disabled veterans, everyone.
That representative is J.D. Scholten. If you’re able to, could you chip in $5 to the campaign today?

We need to prioritize people -- not corporations. No more blank checks for giant companies, especially for ones that pay zero in federal taxes, buyback their own stock, and raise CEO pay rather than investing in their own workers.
The original legislation passed had oversight over the allocation of these funds, but the president misled Congress and removed the inspector general after signing the relief bill into law.
We’re disappointed, but not surprised. We know this can’t happen again -- and J.D. knows that, too.
When he’s in Congress, he will advocate for accountability and fairness -- that means looking out for people who haven’t filed their taxes due to this pandemic, students coming home in the middle of a crisis and losing out on summer job opportunities, disabled veterans worried about their benefits, and folks in rural communities who have a harder time accessing health care.
We need someone in Congress who prioritizes people during a crisis -- not the profits of big corporations. If you can, chip in $5 to help J.D. stand tall for all in Washington.
