SUBJECT: Top 5 Priorities at the Center for Reproductive Rights
Here are the top 5 priorities this year at the Center for Reproductive Rights:
- Litigating Medical Exceptions in U.S. State Abortion Bans
States that have criminalized abortion have put pregnant people in serious danger as those facing pregnancy complications are being denied medically necessary abortion care. The Center has filed legal actions in Texas, Idaho, and Tennessee to confront this inequity in care on behalf of patients and their providers.
- Protecting Medication Abortion Access in the U.S.
Medication abortion is safe and effective and has been used by millions since the FDA approved it 24 years ago. As the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to issue a ruling in a case designed to upend access to abortion pills nationwide, the Center will continue to lead the fight to protect and promote access to medication abortion.
- Confronting the Maternal Health Crisis
It is unacceptable that, worldwide, nearly 300,000 women die each year during pregnancy and childbirth. The Center is confronting this crisis by working to reduce maternal health disparities, improve outcomes, and hold governments accountable for their human rights obligations to patients.
- Ensuring Reproductive Rights as Human Rights
It is past time that sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) be recognized as human rights. Since its founding in 1992, the Center has played a leading role in advocating for this global human right at the United Nations, to ensure all people have reproductive self-determination.
- Advancing Reproductive Care Globally
The Center works to confront the root causes of systemic violations of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) globally. We work to strengthen laws, policies, and practices that ensure human rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled.
We can't meet our audacious goals without the help of our partners. To support these goals, please give today.
