John, before I ever imagined running for Congress, I was a high school civics and government teacher in Waterbury, Connecticut.

While I love my new job as a Member of Congress I’m tempted to put on my teacher hat for a quick civics lesson. John, Democrats regaining the majority in the House is critically important and I’ll tell you why.

As I told the delegates last weekend at our Democratic Convention, the situation we are facing now is unprecedented…but not impossible .

When the framers came up with the Electoral College they considered a situation in which no candidate for President received the required 270 electoral votes to be declared the winner.

According to the most recent polling that has Biden and Trump neck and neck, that scenario, while unprecedented, is not impossible. If no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes, the presidential election leaves the Electoral College process and moves to the House of Representatives.

The newly elected Congress would be the ones to select the President. While the framers could imagine having to break a tie, I don’t think they ever conceived of a Congress that would not accept the results of a free and fair election and the founding principle of our democracy.

Mike Johnson and many other MAGA Republicans have refused to commit to accepting the results of this election. The House majority is crucial to protecting the integrity of the 2024 election.

Our democracy barely emerged intact from the insurrection that Trump incited on January 6, 2021. Fortunately, we had a Democratic House majority to do our constitutional duty and certify the election.

John, we must flip the House of Representatives to protect the integrity of our election. That starts by defending this seat in CT-05. Make a donation of $3 or anything you can afford to support our effort today. [[link removed]]

We all must be clear about the stakes of this election in November — and do our part to ensure we can make the progress the people of CT-05 and voters across the country elected us to make.

With immense gratitude,
