John –

Every week, I ask Texas Scorecard readers to give me their take on discussions that pop up around the Lone Star State. I believe this is one of the best ways to keep my finger on the pulse of Texas politics. The responses I receive and post to Texas Scorecard’s weekly Y’all Answered column offer insight into the direction readers want our state moving.

The other week, I got a chuckle out of one reader’s thoughts regarding the woke policies that have plagued the City of Austin for years:

“...The people of Austin would vote for a ham sandwich if there was a ‘D’ after its name. Until that changes, nothing else will. Until then, the rest of us are stuck with their decision. Austin is living proof you can’t fix stupid.” - Rick G.

Joking aside, one thing has become abundantly clear to me through reading the opinions of Texas Scorecard readers over the years: Texans are tired of having special interests and multi-national corporate cronies prioritized over the wellbeing of their own families and communities.

As of today, we are just under 13 days out from the runoff election on May 28th. From early polling and conversations I’ve had with voters around the state, I think Texans will have much to look forward to heading into November.

After all, we just witnessed in March a monumental rejection of Austin insiders in the Texas House when grassroots challengers pulled off upsets against establishment incumbents and hand-picked heirs for seats across the state.

Even still, voters have an opportunity to sound a resounding message on May 28th.
