🏛️ Governor’s May Revise Emphasizes Critical Need for Ongoing Advocacy

Last week, Governor Newsom released his May Revise to the 2024-25 state budget proposal, showing a growing state deficit and some cuts to affordable housing programs. The good news for housing advocates is that, even amid an extremely tight budget year, the May Revise restored NPH’s highest priority ask – $500 million to the Enhanced State Tax Credits.

What’s Next NPH’s advocacy efforts will include identifying the strongest budget package we can secure for the region’s and state’s critical affordable housing needs, as well as exploring strategies outside of the budget to advance our goals. NPH looks forward to partnering with the Governor and Legislature to identify solutions that balance the fiscal reality facing California’s budget, while also meeting the most critical housing affordability and homelessness needs across the state.

🏘️ Enterprise Bay Area Pipeline Report: Ready to Build an Affordable Future

A new Bay Area Pipeline report is out from Enterprise Community Partners showing that nearly 41,000 affordable homes are stuck in pre-development across the Bay Area, awaiting funding to unlock their ability to house Bay Area low-income families and individuals.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports on the data’s importance as the board of the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) heads towards a scheduled June 26 vote on a 9-county Bay Area bond measure, which could be the key to unlocking affordable housing developments stuck in the pipeline to construction.

“There are thousands of units that are ready to go that have already received public approvals — we are not starting from scratch . . . There are developments that have been entitled, have money from local governments, they have been through the planning process. We can have an immediate impact,” said BAHFA Executive Director Kate Hartley via the Chronicle.
