John,

I've been asked a lot lately about what I think is going on with the
disconnect so many Americans are feeling about President Biden’s economic
message, and with the struggles his team is having with his lagging poll
numbers.

As you know, I endorsed President Biden for election in 2020 because I
believed that a second term for Donald Trump represented a clear threat to
American democracy. I mention that so you’ll know that I take no joy in sharing
with you the things I said on Monday during a CNBC interview.

Despite all his years in the public eye, he is not a good communicator. And if
he hopes to win reelection, his team needs to change course quickly. He needs
to adopt a strategy that puts the focus squarely on what he hopes to accomplish
if elected to a second term.

This could take the form of very capable people around him who may serve in
his cabinet or economic advisors who have the credibility to get out there and
help change the narrative.

I'm not sure if it’s the president or his team that is in denial about what's
going on or about what’s failing to get through to Americans. But it seems
clear there is a big disconnect between what he feels he's accomplished (and
deserves credit for) and what the American people believe about the current
state of our economy.

Not all of us will agree on this, I’m aware, because not everyone is thriving
as they feel they should in today’s economy. But the reality is not as dire as
many Americans tell the polls. We’d all be better served if the president and
his team could improve their message. Tell us where we stand and where he plans
to take us. His presidency – and America’s future – stand in the balance.

I’m out there doing what I can to tell it straight, so I appreciate your
support – whatever you can do – to help me in that effort.

John
