New IJ Zoning Justice Project Will Protect and Promote the Freedom to Use Property

 All too often the arbitrary lines of zoning codes become hardened rules that stand between people and their plans to use their property productively for housing, home businesses, and more. IJ has long protected property rights and has increasingly challenged zoning regulations that keep property owners from using their land to improve their lives and their communities. To unite this work and further enhance our litigation and legislative efforts, IJ is launching our new Zoning Justice Project.

Tennessee Appeals Court Affirms That Warrantless Searches by Game Wardens Are Unconstitutional

A Tennessee appeals court affirmed that the Tennessee Constitution bars game wardens from conducting warrantless searches of private property. The ruling upholds a circuit court victory for Benton County landowners Terry Rainwaters and Hunter Hollingsworth. Terry and Hunter sued with IJ after the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency ignored their “No Trespassing” signs by entering and installing cameras on their land.

The Michigan Supreme Court unanimously ruled that even if the government deliberately violates your rights by flying a drone over your property, it can still use its unconstitutionally obtained evidence against you in court.
