Energy demand is growing, but the answer isn't more gas
Hi—
SPEAK UP NOW
Those of us in climate have long known that electrifying our economy will mean we need more electricity, and the obvious solution is for utilities to invest in affordable, reliable clean energy—it's more resilient, it's cheaper than gas, and money from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) makes it even cheaper.
But despite this obvious solution, Big Oil and Gas are using the higher demand to justify building out more dirty gas power plants, even going as far as to falsely overstate the demand.
Some utilities are even ignoring clean energy's cheaper price tag so that they can charge consumers for the costs of building these unnecessary new gas power plants.
This is just plain dumb—and more than that, it's dangerous. Climate pollution and air pollution from "natural" gas are a danger to our health, our communities, and our future.
Speak up now: Tell utility regulators they don't need new gas to address growing demand.
NO NEW GAS!
Sincerely,
Jessica Hamilton
