Hi Friend,
This Saturday, May 18, GGWash and our friends over at the Coalition for Smarter Growth are hosting a photography-centered walking tour in Silver Spring [[link removed]] from 11am - 1pm.
We're going to explore some of Silver Spring's most happening public spaces, visit some of the best examples of housing diversity, and OF COURSE, check out Purple Line construction. Along the way, we'll be encouraging folks to take photos and upload them later to the GGWash flickr poo [[link removed]] l.
RSVP today!
If you aren't familiar, 95% of the pictures we feature in our emails and articles come from our flickr group [[link removed]] and were taken by a volunteer just like you. People have been sharing their snapshots with us for more than a decade. It's an amazing resource but like everything it needs a little TLC to stay current.
Currently, the GGWash flickr pool's "Silver Spring" tag [[link removed]] is like an online time capsule. There are pictures dating back to 2011 and the most recent photo is from almost a year ago. While that's great for recent historical context, its not so great when we publish an article that's focused on Silver Spring now or in the future. That's where you come in!
Contributing to our flickr pool is one of the best ways you can use your time and creativity to support GGWash and CSG (besides becoming a monthly donor [[link removed]] ). If you're interested in joining us, please RSVP here. [[link removed]]
We'll meet at 11am near the Silver Spring Farmers Market, spend about 15 minutes learning from Dan, GGWash's Regional Policy Director, about current efforts to increase the livability of Silver Spring, hear some photography tips from some of our current Flickr photographers, and then split into small groups to explore and take some photos.
If you've been looking for an impactful way to volunteer, this is your moment! All you need to bring is yourself, and something to take pictures with -- absolutely no photography experience required. We hope we'll see you on Saturday.
[[link removed]] All the best,
Kate Jentoft-Herr

P.S. If you'd prefer to come out to something with less walking involved, check out our Capitol Hill Meet-up this Thursday (tomorrow) and our next " Mid-city/Near Northwest/Rock Creek West/" Happy Hour [[link removed]] in Adams Morgan on Sunday.
