John,
I’ve written to you a lot about how disinformation and misinformation will effect the election in November.
I wanted to share with you this Newsweek op-ed I wrote with Secretaries of State Jocelyn Benson (MI) and Adrian Frontes (AZ), which addresses the challenges ahead and how we’re leading with the truth to protect democracy in our states.
We are working in our states to protect the people who protect democracy. This means effectively countering threats to voters and election officials—and the fast-spreading conspiracy theories that fuel those threats.
It's clear we are in the middle of a coordinated, far-reaching effort to use lies to dismantle democracy and harm voters' faith. As the chief election officers for Arizona, Michigan, and Minnesota, we're determined to ensure democracy not just survives this moment, but emerges with stronger, more secure, and more accessible elections than ever before.
As Secretary of State, I’m leading with the truth. I helped write the new law in Minnesota to ensure the safety and security of our election workers.
But we can’t do it alone. We’re just 6 months away from the election and we need your help. Jocelyn, Adrian and I are working as hard as we can to protect democracy. I’m asking if 250 people will join us by making a split donation to our campaigns to help us keep fighting. Will you chip in $5 or more now?
If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will automatically be split between Steve Simon, Jocelyn Benson and Adrian Fontes. |
Election deniers and conspiracy theorists may be noisy, but they only succeed if we stay silent. Just as democracy prevailed in 2020, it can and will prevail again in 2024.
Here’s what we promised to you: “As election officials, we will continue our work to protect our elections against all bad actors who seek to undermine that basic American promise of one person, one vote. And we'll proudly stand guard to ensure that every vote is counted, and every voice is heard.”
Please help us keep this promise by chipping in any amount this week →
Thanks for everything,
Steve
