John,
With Donald Trump siphoning millions from Republican fundraising to pay his legal bills, the RNC is facing a cash crunch so severe that they’ve come up with a novel solution to execute their 2024 campaign efforts:
They are partnering with Charlie Kirk’s extreme, right-wing propaganda network, Turning Point USA.
If you’ve never heard of Turning Point or its founder, Charlie Kirk, buckle up.
Turning Point is the social media juggernaut for radical right-wing beliefs, like antisemitism and white supremacy. Charlie Kirk has questioned whether Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has “the brain processing power to be taken seriously” because she’s a Black woman. And he’s claimed Jews control non-profits, colleges, and governments.
And Turning Point is moving even further to the right. Far-right Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes recently said that Turning Point is being taken over by young extremists who are associated with his white supremacy-fueled “Groyper” movement.
So, what is the RNC getting out of this?
Turning Point and Kirk both have a massive digital footprint, with over 5 million followers across their social platforms. The organization and Kirk are frequent players in the right-wing conference circuit.
In short, the potential audience is massive, and now the RNC is going to tap into that network to try and spread propaganda to sell Donald Trump’s authoritarianism to American voters.
So, yeah, that’s awful. But here’s the good news:
We founded COURIER to stop right-wing liars and hate-mongers like Kirk and Turning Point USA. In battleground states nationwide, we expose their lies and provide trustworthy local news coverage in communities without access to good journalism.
The best part is that we make all of this information freely available in the same online spaces where right-wing hate spreads.
