Social Security: Are You Retirement Ready?

Tuesday, May 21
12 pm ET

Social Security: Are You Retirement Ready? is for anyone considering applying for Social Security or wants to be retirement-ready. This workshop is designed to take the confusion out of the many different options available to begin receiving Social Security income and help you determine which option is best for you.

In this workshop, we will discuss:

  • When you are eligible to receive retirement benefits
  • How early retirement affects your benefits
  • The requirements for spousal benefits and survivors’ benefits
  • When you should file for Medicare

Ravi Gopaul, public affairs specialist for the Social Security Administration’s New York region, will be our guest speaker. Ravi is responsible for public outreach, education and community engagement in Manhattan and Staten Island. He works with community-based organizations, advocacy groups and employers to help people understand Social Security. He has more than a decade of experience with SSA as a claims specialist in New York City, where he helped people apply for Social Security retirement, disability and auxiliaries’ benefits, SSI and Medicare.

Before joining this workshop, we recommend (but do not require):

  • Setting up your Social Security accounts
  • Reviewing your Social Security Statement before the event so that the Social Security and Medicare questions that are asked are based on circumstances
