** Good Bills for a Better Congress, with an eye to Roevember
------------------------------------------------------------
June 24, 2024 will be the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, after 49 years of federal protection of reproductive rights. Donald Trump has been bragging that he made it happen by appointing Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett to the Supreme Court. MAGA Republicans nationwide have been doubling down on further restricting reproductive rights, including introducing bills to limit access to medication abortion, contraceptives, and in-vitro fertilization.
Democrats nationwide have been winning elections since 2022 by emphasizing MAGA Republicans radical removal of rights women have had for nearly fifty years. And Democrats in Congress have introduced a solid roster of legislation since June of 2022 aimed at restoring our reproductive rights and protecting similar rights MAGA radicals have sought to curtail.
These bills include the protection of data relating to reproductive health treatments, protections for doctors who offer reproductive health care services, and several bills establishing the right to an abortion.
We need to win the House, Senate, and Presidency in 2024 so we can get these bills passed.

** Your calls are working: The bill to curb PG&E price-gouging has a chance!
------------------------------------------------------------
Last year, California lawmakers rushed through a bill that imposed a Utility Tax on ratepayers. There’s nothing preventing this fee from rising even higher in the future.
AB 1999 would cap the Utility Tax at $10 per month and prohibit it from rising faster than inflation. After weeks of struggle, the bill now has a hearing today in the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Energy and tomorrow in the Appropriations Committee. Our Assemblymember Ting is on the former, and Assemblymember Haney is on the latter.
The Appropriations Committee is a particular challenge, because bills often fail to pass it. So, we need to keep up the pressure to save AB 1999!
We need your calls today: ([link removed]) Contact Assemblymembers Ting and Haney and tell them to save AB 1999.

Last chance for Public Comment: Support Student Loan Relief
------------------------------------------------------------
Since 2020 one of the key promises of the Biden administration has been to forgive federal student loans. After the original student debt relief plan was blocked by the Supreme Court, the Biden Administration has looked for opportunities to partially or fully forgive federal student loans wherever it can.
Now the administration is proposing ([link removed]) to cancel years of accrued interest—up to $20,000 in automatic cancellation. The proposed rules would also eliminate student debt that is more than twenty years old and discharge loans for people who are eligible for loan forgiveness under earlier plans but are not enrolled in those plans.
These rules have been formally published in the Federal Register ([link removed]) , and we need your public comments in support of student loan relief. There are only 3 days left to comment, so don't delay.
Simply follow the link to the Federal Register ([link removed]) and click the green Submit a Formal Comment button.
Use your own words and personal stories. If you have had student debt forgiveness already, explain how it has helped you.
** Don't use Cue Health COVID-19 tests
------------------------------------------------------------
This comes from the FDA, which published that recommendation ([link removed]) this week after sending a letter ([link removed]) to the manufacturer rebuking Cue's questionable practices with regard to manufacturing and quality control of these home tests.
If you have Cue tests, you should not use them. For most people, the easiest-to-obtain fallback will be rapid antigen COVID-19 tests ([link removed]) , which you can get from all pharmacies, most grocery stores, and Target.
** Back in the fray for Georgia: Help build a pro-choice State Supreme Court majority
------------------------------------------------------------
John Barrow is a pro-choice candidate running for a seat on the State Supreme Court in Georgia. He has been approved by Indivisible chapters in Georgia, and we invite you to join them and Indivisible National in getting out the vote for this critical race! Flipping this seat could mean overturning the abortion ban in Georgia.
Election day is Tuesday, May 21—so we need to do everything we can, as soon as possible.
You can help TODAY by joining the phone bank led by the Indivisible Georgia Coalition. RSVP here. ([link removed])
** Tell your friends in swing districts: Register for Neighbor2Neighbor
