SCORECARD
A final word on miniature golf, since that game has inspired this series of spring emails. If you’ve ever played mini-golf, you know there’s more equipment involved than just a putter and golf ball. You also need a scorecard, which happens to conveniently fit inside a player’s back pocket, and a four-inch pencil that inconveniently lacks an eraser. Both are indispensable. If you’re the scorekeeper, that little card gives you the chance to constantly compare your score with that of your golf mates. That comparative exercise can be depressing, however, especially if you’re noticing a lot of big numbers next to your name.
At the Christian Century, we don’t keep score. Whether it’s different articles that readers seem to like, or particular writers who have a knack for cranking out thoughtful pieces, or you who contribute financially to the work we do; we don’t keep score. We simply count it as grace that we’re able to produce this good magazine every 30 days, and that we’re able to do so because you support this nonprofit journalistic ministry.
Thank you to all who contributed to this important spring campaign. We don’t exist without your generous support. In lieu of scrounging up a mini-golf pencil to send you a personal note of gratitude, I want you to feel the appreciation right here.
If you haven’t taken the opportunity to give to the important work we do, please do so today in any amount. We count on that support. And, we’d be delighted if you should be the one to push us over the top of our spring goal. (Not that we’re keeping score.)
