Building a cleaner future while keeping our economy moving.

I have more good news to share thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: our region is receiving significant support for our seaports and airports!

First, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration has granted $16 million to the Northwest Seaport Alliance. Grants like this one are essential in transitioning our operations to zero emissions, supporting not only our environment but also our truck drivers with the necessary charging infrastructure.

This funding will:

  • provide incentives for the purchase of 36-58 heavy-duty, zero-emission trucks;
  • fund the operation of those trucks along with the charging or fueling infrastructure needed to support those vehicles in our region; and
  • reduce truck air pollution near the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma, benefiting truck drivers, port workers, and families in our communities.

The Northwest Seaport Alliance has set ambitious goals to eliminate seaport-related emissions by 2050, and this funding is a crucial step toward building a cleaner future while keeping our economy moving.

Furthermore, the Friday Harbor Airport, Lopez Island Airport, and Anacortes Airports have secured $2.8 million in AIG funding to modernize airport infrastructure, improve runway safety, and create jobs.

Additionally, the FAA granted $1,000,001 to the Port of Friday Harbor to improve its fuel farm infrastructure. This investment is crucial for enhancing safety and accommodating more aircraft.

These are just a few of the over 670 specific projects identified for funding statewide. I am committed to building a stronger, more resilient future for Northwest Washington, and I am proud to have played a role in securing $8.7 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding for Washington state.

More soon,

Rick
