If you don’t live in Los Angeles, you may not remember the bombshell recording that was released in 2022 and proved once and for all that unchecked, unbridled, and undeniable racism and homophobia are alive and well in American politics, on both sides of the aisle. What you may not realize is that one of the loudest voices on that tape is still in office. Yep, he refused to leave. Weeks and months of protests, council member walkouts, even the President of the United States calling on him to resign meant nothing. But of course it didn’t. When you’re a racist, homophobic politician, you don’t actually care what the people want.
Enter: Ysabel Jurado.
Ysabel is amazing. A lifelong Angeleno with an incredible story, Ysabel is a housing rights attorney who knows full well the challenges the city is facing and how to fix them. And now she is also the frontrunner in the most consequential city council race in Los Angeles in a long time.
Politics are pretty depressing right now. No one can agree on much of anything. There is very little to be inspired by. We need young, passionate, brilliant young changemakers more than ever and Ysabel fits the bill. That’s why she is our first endorsee of the year and a candidate we believe in wholeheartedly.
