Dear Friends,
The past two weeks have been the most difficult our community has faced in recent history. Four heroic law enforcement officers lost their lives in the line of duty protecting us at all costs to their own safety. While this senseless act of violence may have left our community in pain, witnessing the way we have come together, wrapped our arms around the family, friends, and colleagues of those lost, and uplifted one another has been nothing short of inspiring.
The days and weeks ahead will be difficult, but together we will persevere. Because, we are Charlotte Strong.
As we move forward, we must turn our anguish into action. For far too long, our law enforcement personnel have been waging a preventable war against gun violence around the country. We must pass common sense gun reforms and ensure that our law enforcement agencies have the resources they need to get illegal firearms off of our streets for good.
God Bless you, God bless those who are mourning, and God bless Charlotte.
Sincerely,
Alma

Rep. Adams Attends Grand Opening of Eastway Crossings Apartment Complex
Congresswoman Adams helped cut the ribbon on Eastway Crossings, a new senior living community in East Charlotte today. The now completed 132-unit project, built along the LYNX Blue Line, will provide seniors and veterans at or below 60% of median income with affordable and safe housing in Mecklenburg County, with nearly 30% of the units reserved for veterans.
Rep. Adams was joined at this event by Mecklenburg County Commissioner George Dunlap, as well as representatives from Harmony Housing Affordable Development, Urban Trends, Inlivian, other organizations who helped secure the project application, and new residents in the complex. Long a passionate advocate for housing access, Rep. Adams previously attended and delivered remarks at the development’s groundbreaking ceremony in 2022.
“After years of fighting for this project, I was honored to participate in the grand opening of the Eastway Crossings Apartments right here in Charlotte yesterday," said Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. “This development was made possible through federal investment and programs like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, and the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program in collaboration with the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, headed by the great Secretary Marcia Fudge. This residential community offers affordable housing to low-income seniors, with 30% of the units reserved for veterans who bravely served our country. Having a safe place to live is a fundamental right, and I will not stop fighting for access to affordable housing until that right is a reality.”
Rep. Adams’ additionally helped secure funding for the project via her direct advocacy to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, headed by her friend and former colleague, Secretary Marcia Fudge. Rep. Adams also introduced the LIFELINE Act in 2022, which was adopted by the US Treasury Department in 2023, unlocking over $8 billion to construct affordable housing.

My office is proud to announce our participation in this year’s Congressional App Challenge [ [link removed] ]. This spirited competition provides an opportunity for students to learn how to code. It also encourages students to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) while promoting innovation and engagement in computer science.
That’s where I’ll lay my hat this week, folks! Be sure to share Adams Alerts with a friend so they can receive updates first-hand.
God Bless!
