John,
In the face of ongoing threats to democracy, our planet, and our economy, all of us need to fight even harder for liberation, justice, and equity. Specifically, we must win on local, state, and federal transformative economic policies. In this highly contentious landscape, 501(c)(3) nonprofits have an important role to play. As I discuss in NPQ, community-serving nonprofits can be effective when they step into their power as trusted connectors between communities and power brokers, sharing the wisdom and experiences of the communities they represent with decision-makers and translating impactful policy change opportunities to communities.
Nonprofits often have strong relationships with communities, unique expertise, and powerful communication channels to bring to bear. What if we supported nonprofits in sharing those resources and skill sets with larger movements for change?
