Hi,

If you don’t know me, my name is Ty Pinkins. I’m the proud son of a tractor driver, born and raised in Rolling Fork. I am a Bronze Star Veteran, an attorney, and a community organizer. I’m also the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in our great state of Mississippi.

I’m a Mississippian, through and through. Moving from farm to farm, depending on where my dad found work, both of my parents taught me the value of hard work from a young age.

My parents lived the values that I abide by now - service to others, listening to folks about what matters to them, and taking action to help them.

Thanks to their example, I became the first person in my family to graduate high school and attend college.

Growing up in the Delta, I knew that I wanted to be of service to my community. The first opportunity I saw was enlisting in the U.S. Army. I served 21 years on active duty, including three combat tours. I was awarded the Bronze Star for my actions. I studied on bases around the world and ultimately completed my undergraduate degree while stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

But I was just getting started.

After coming home, I knew that I needed to continue my service in the Delta. There are too many injustices and inequalities facing all of our families. Many of our friends and our neighbors are staring down poverty, underfunded schools, lack of quality healthcare, and high unemployment. So I founded a nonprofit where we work to serve and inspire youth from low-income communities, provide career and academic-related resources and the opportunity to work with mentors.

Yet there was still more I could do for my community. So I went to law school and instead of pursuing some far-off lucrative career, I came right back to Mississippi.

As an attorney I fought back against landlords trying to force evictions on parents during the COVID-19 crisis, represented workers seeking compensation in the face of unfair employment practices, and low-income Mississippians just trying to get a fair shake in our justice system.

In our communities, I’ve been an advocate for improving our elections by helping to establish organizations supporting women seeking elected office, helping draw fair voting districts to make our democracy fair for all of us, and expanding voting rights to make it easier to access the ballot. As I work alongside other Mississippians, I’m always asking myself “What more can I do for others?”

One thing has remained constant – my parents’ lived example of the importance of giving back and using what you have to help others. So now, I’m continuing my service to Mississippi by running for the U.S. Senate.

I believe the most important thing a leader must do is listen. And, this is the big thing that is missing in Washington today. That's why our campaign motto is “You Talk. I Listen. We Do.” This means our campaign is driven by you talking, telling me what's important to you and your family; me listening, waking up each day thinking about what you say is important to your family and your community; and you and I working together to move Mississippi forward.
