Representative Adriano Espaillat to Hold a Press Conference Advocating for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ecuadorians

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, May 15th starting at 12:00 pm. (EDT), Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) will lead a press conference urging temporary protected status (TPS) for Ecuadorians currently residing in the United States.

“Ecuadorian families currently in the United States have traveled thousands of miles in order to flee the ongoing, unspeakable violence in their home nation, and have come here in search of work,” said Espaillat. “We must ensure TPS designations for these deserving Ecuadorians, in order to protect them from deportation and provide them with immediate work permits so they can support their families and contribute to the U.S. economy. It is the right thing to do to meet this moment in history, and I commend each of my congressional colleagues and advocates for their unwavering support to address the urgent humanitarian situation unfolding in Ecuador by calling for this much-needed TPS designation.”

The Espaillat-led press conference—which will call for solidarity with Ecuadorians and swift action from the Biden Administration to grant TPS for Ecuador—will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the House Triangle (U.S Capitol).

WASHINGTON, DC – El miércoles, 15 de mayo, a partir de las 12:00 pm. (EDT), el congresista Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) encabezará una conferencia de prensa instando a que se otorgue el Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) a los ecuatorianos que actualmente residen en los Estados Unidos.

“Las familias ecuatorianas que actualmente se encuentran aquí en los Estados Unidos han viajado miles de millas para huir de la indescriptible violencia actual en su país de origen, y han venido aquí en busca de trabajo”, dijo Espaillat. “Debemos asegurar la designación de TPS para estos ecuatorianos merecedores, a fin de protegerlos de la deportación y brindarles permisos de trabajo inmediatos para que puedan mantener a sus familias y contribuir a la economía de los Estados Unidos. Es lo correcto para afrontar este momento de la historia, y felicito a cada uno de mis colegas y defensores del Congreso por su apoyo inquebrantable para abordar la urgente situación humanitaria que se desarrolla en Ecuador al solicitar esta tan necesaria designación de TPS”.

La conferencia de prensa encabezada por Espaillat ―que llamará a la solidaridad con los ecuatorianos y a una acción rápida por parte de la Administración Biden para otorgar el TPS a Ecuador― se llevará a cabo a las 12:00 p.m. en el House Triangle (Capitolio de EE. UU.).
