ANNOUNCING TIES 2024 OPEN CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS!
Our Stories. Our Power.
TIES IS BACK! We're excited to announce the much-anticipated return of the Transgender Information & Empowerment Summit (TIES) for its 9th remarkable year! Join Equality Virginia at this unique event, set to unfold in the vibrant heart of Richmond, Virginia, on November 16, 2024. Proudly standing as the largest event of its kind in the Southern US, TIES welcomes all transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender expansive communities, along with their friends, family, advocates, and allies.
An Invitation to Connect and Grow
This year’s conference is not just an event —it’s a movement. At TIES, we’re offering a robust day of free activities focused on education, empowerment, resource expansion, and most importantly, joy. It is a celebratory space for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to come together, learn from each other, and strengthen bonds within and beyond the community.
Stories Shape Our Future
Dive into this year’s theme of Storytelling. Prepare to challenge and change the prevailing narratives about identity, community, and resilience. At TIES, every voice has the power to reshape conversations around bodies, economies, histories, pleasure, revolt, and science.
A Decade of Making a Difference
From its inception in 2014 with just 200 attendees to a virtual crowd of over 700 in 2021, TIES has continuously expanded its reach, embracing hundreds from Virginia, DC, Maryland, and beyond. This year, we’re thrilled to welcome 400 participants to reconnect in person for the first time since 2019. Keep an eye out for TIES Pop-Up Events and virtual programming throughout the year.
Why Attend TIES?
At TIES, you’ll experience a dynamic mix of panels, workshops, storytelling sessions, networking opportunities, empowerment clinics, and skill-building exercises–all designed to foster holistic health, wellness, and both personal and community growth.

Who can propose workshops?
Equality Virginia is committed to centering trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive communities. Our Equitable Empowerment Planning Committee and EV staff are working to curate programming that also embraces intersectionality and the anti-racist values of Equality Virginia. We strongly encourage proposals from people with these identities along with those who are members of other marginalized communities.
What kind of workshops can I propose?
We invite you to submit a proposal to lead a workshop, caucus, or panel discussion based on your professional expertise, community care service, mutual aid organizing, and/or lived experience. TIES offers access to trans-affirming education, skill building, empowerment, health & wellness, and community support. We welcome proposals for both in-person and virtual settings.
