John,

Just in time for Mother’s Day, the GOP marched out Sen. Katie Britt to introduce the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act (MOMS Act) last week.

At least her video announcement was more polished than her response to the State of the Union.

An animated image from Katie Britt’s GOP response to Biden’s State of the Union address.

Britt says the MOMS Act will “provide critical support” to women during the most difficult periods of motherhood. She doesn’t go into specifics, and it’s not hard to see why.

Here’s what Katie Britt doesn’t tell voters about this legislation: it creates a government database of expectant mothers.

The MOMS Act is a clever name to drive support for a bill that would actually allow pregnant women to be monitored.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this is entering the Senate just as Donald Trump came out in support of abortion surveillance programs – tracking pregnant women to prosecute those who violate state abortion bans like the one in Idaho.

John, we cannot sit back and do nothing while Republicans push us closer to a more dystopian reality than the one we’re already living in.

Democrats must do everything we can to flip the House and keep our Senate majority this year. Your support today can help me win this race in November and vote YES to codifying Roe next year.

The MOMS Act even impacts women in states without abortion bans. First, it treats an embryo or fetus as a living child and threatens the future of IVF, just like the Life at Conception Act – which my opponent Mike Simpson co-sponsored.

And if a woman tells her doctor that they’re unsure about starting a family, doctors will be required to direct them to crisis pregnancy centers where staff are trained to talk women out of having an abortion.

I can only speak for myself, but it sure seems like we’re getting closer to The Handmaid’s Tale

This election might be our last chance to stop it from getting worse, and to reverse Republicans’ assault on our freedoms and our democracy.

It’s up to us to decide the course of history this year. Thanks for being in this fight with me.

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
